Item description: * See scan - fantastic MS-64/MS-65 range condition. This is a nice and very rare US / USA American Liberty Head $1 one dollar gold coin. Mintage & Circulation strikes: 4,076,051
pieces. Designer: James Barton Longacre. Diameter: 12.7mm. with reeded edge. Weight: 25.8 grains (1.7 grams). Metal content: Gold - 90%, Other - 10%. Gold Dollars owe their existence to the California Gold Rush, when the precious yellow metal suddenly became so plentiful that two new denominations (Gold Dollars and Double Eagles) were introduced into the American monetary system. The 1853 Gold Dollar is part of the design series issued from 1849 to 1854. Known as “Type One,” this design features a small head of Miss Liberty on the front and a simple wreath on the back. The finest Uncirculated examples graded by PCGS are 3 MS-69's. Nice and rare numismatics collector piece and one of the rare US gold eagles and dollar coins.
